Have you ever in your life kept exalted company? A current neighbour of mine was presented with an honour by the late Queen.
As a journalist I interviewed the Beach Boys and plenty of others was in close quarters to ask Lennox Lewis and Maggie Thatcher probing questions, well I thought they were probing. My faux pas though was interviewing James Mason not knowing who the hell he was. He was opening the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, and was one of Hollywood greatest actors. How was I to know? I’d barely come off watching the kiddies programmes on TV.
Anyway yesterday I surprisingly found that my latest single Rockabye had been lifted onto a Marvin Gaye website. But it wasn’t just Marvin’s songs on the site. At No2 to Marvin’s No 1 What’s Goin On was Al Green. But there I was at No3 on the list with Rockabye with James Brown 4th, Otis Redding 8th Roberta Flack 9th and below that Ray Charles.
My song Rockabye is making waves …and in the rich man’s playgrounds too. It’s on repeat in Cairo, Jeddah and Riyadh. One hundred and 60 people have it on repeat. They like it. I like it. In the words of Marvin Gaye ..What’s Goin on?
